From the #1 bestselling author and creator of hit Netflix series The Stranger comes a riveting new thriller, starring the new hero Windsor Horne Lockwood III - or Win, as he is known to his (few) friends ...
____________________________
Over twenty years ago, heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors, and the items stolen from her family were never recovered.

Until now.

On New York's Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead not only on Patricia's kidnapping but also on another FBI cold case - with the suitcase and painting both pointing them towards one man.

Windsor Horne Lockwood III - or Win as his few friends call him - doesn't know how his suitcase and his family's stolen painting ended up in this dead man's apartment. But he's interested - especially when the FBI tell him that the man who kidnapped his cousin was also behind an act of domestic terrorism, and that he may still be at large.

The two cases have baffled the FBI for decades. But Win has three things the FBI does not:: a personal connection to the case, a large fortune, and his own unique brand of justice ...

3.5 stars Author American thriller writer. More than 60 million books in print. Published in 43 languages. His last seven novels all debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Multiple awards. Multiple film adaptations, Netflix series etc. Many of Mr C's books involve ex-basketball player turned sports agent turned amateur sleuth Myron Bolitar, who often seeks the help of his fabulously wealthy martial arts enthusiast vigilante and bestie since childhood, Windsor Horne Lockwood III, who is now getting a series of his own. In brief Batman meets Ted Bundy meets downmarket NY take on the Chicago Seven 50 years on with a dash of Gabriel Allon's Heist and, I don't know, The Goldfinch maybe. Super-rich, arrogant, misogynist vigilante protagonist who doesn't have a politically correct bone in his body, but has some seriously great kit that he boasts about a lot. It would be difficult to come up with a more improbable plot, yet Mr C brings it home. Writing Well-paced, first person, tongue-in-cheek narrative that could scarcely be more derivative if it tried. Bottom line I have chosen to interpret this as Mr Coben's p***-take on the ironic story telling allegedly favoured by millennials. If so, he's done a good job. If not, it will probably do great on Netflix anyway.

Fantastic

Could not put it down it was fast paced well written and exciting. Win is a great character he was impressive in Byron’s books but excels by himself as well. Harlan you need to bring these two characters back together. Loved it
